Research in the capture, conversion and use of solar energy were initiated at the University "Politehnica Timisoara" in 1976 by ​​a multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Coleta Sabbath, the main purpose designed industrial applications of this form of energy with the onset of alternative global energy crisis in the 7th decade of last century.
